Project #4 Final Staement

My Identity is very quiet and centered. I believe that I am a very quietly passionate individual and prefer the simple things in life. My general format is based on a square that mirrors the shape of my logo. The "B/M" logo is very contemporary and I believe it has a timeless quality. I have looked to Michael Graves for inspiration and find myself comfortable with his stunning simplicity.

The cohesiveness throughout my identity is centered and quietly elegant. Every now and then, when a graphic logo isn't required, I have played with the word "art" within my last name for an added element that relates to this field. The brown and orange colors are very earthen and subtle that I believe fits me well with the warm comforting nature.

The colaboration of a contemporary Futura and a traditional Kepler reflects my respect to tradition and fusion to modern. The lower-case subtitles through out my resume and kit give a casual sense of awareness and playfulness.

Packaging is a huge part of my portfolio, I love the sensationalism that pushing the 2-D to the 3-D has upon design and gives a global awareness to my belief that "good design is clearly communicating diversity within continuity."

I have learned a lot this semester and have been pushed to my limits with conceptualizing, work load, and exploration. Although some of these projects have been stressful, I have had a lot of fun this semester and created things, typographically, that I never thought I could produce before.

Project #4 Process

I have had much trial and error with this project and found it hard to create a single campaign that said "this is Micah." The following are screen grabs of my process within designing my grids, identity's tone, and format. I have a separate resume, cover letter, and format that falls within the standard letter size for human resources filing; while my drop off is a consistent square.

Resume, Leave-Behind, Thank you card Progress

So far I am changing my robot idea to something that expresses myself a bit more comfortably than the previous robot idea. I am going with a logo I've made that is very clean, geometric and contemporary looking. I think  that it expresses my quiet passion and slightly conservative side. I've looked to Michael Graves for inspiration and think my logo and media kit, so far, reflects his approach of stripping down all ornamentation and displaying a friendly minimal campaign.

My thank-you cards and new resume will be put into a square layout that is an accordian fold for my resume and a roll fold for my thank-you cards. This will express the linear path, and an added element of myself that says "there always something more."

For my leave behind, I wanted to create something timeless that would make someone want to keep it on there desk, and at the same time something practical that they could use. So I've decided on a calender tent calendar of the specific month that the drop off was made. I am still toying with the idea of having the numbers more playful to express the "timeless" qualities.

Project #4 - Portfolio portion.

I have selected a nice body of work to display. I wanted a nice variety of packaging, advertisement, multiple page documents, etc. These are not the finished photos that will appear in the final, these are just to show which pieces I am choosing and will clean up and re-shoot. I also have a start at a working layout for my portfolio pages. I have not chosen which book I want to include yet, so that piece is not present.

Project #4 - Resume progress and process

Here is my resume thus far. The toy robot is just a fun idea I had of representing fun, showing my age, and exude a sense of mechanical skill fusing with the creative world. I tried to think of myself as a color and I've come up with an orange/brown tone to show my down-to-earth nature and quiet passion.
I've included a section on passion/brief self-statement, skills, education, awards & volunteer work, and work experience within my resume. I also have a logo for myself that I might try out in place of my current name. So far this is what I have. I am thinking of containing everything within an interesting folded package or folder of some sort for a drop-off, and have evidence of my working resume for the digital output. My cover letter and references are also included on separate pages. My references are a mixture of academic, personal, and professional. I am currently working on my cover letter.
